Covid-19: Virus can survive on touchscreens for 28 days

What They Say

Researchers in Australia’s national science agency (CSIRO) have reported that Covid-19 can remain infectious on surfaces including touchscreens for up to 28 days. At 20°C, the virus was ‘extremely robust’, but it disappeared much more quickly as temperatures rise.

What We Think

I’ve talked many times about the problems of hygiene and touch over the years. Although there is a lot of work on ‘touchless touch’ (in fact, I may set up a tag on that topic), I think it will be some time before the touchless haptics (Toppan Develops World’s First Aerial Touch Display to Generate Images Parallel to the Panel) are good enough to deliver a good experience. The world needs a standardised way to allow personal devices to control touch applications. (BR)
