What They Say
Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display are at loggerheads over the price to be paid for QD-OLED panels according to the Elec, as the TV business is reported to have demanded pricing at the same level as LG Display White OLED. The paper believes that the panels are being offered at around a $100 premium.
What We Think
Well, this kind of internal negotiation is often fraught and tense. The QD-OLED panels should sell for more than WOLED as they are clearly, according to those that have seen them, better than LG’s offerings. As previously reported, Samsung Display may have a low yield at the moment, but will not want to simply stockpile panels. Of course, Sony has adopted the QD-OLED and the dispute may be a really unexpected gift to the Japanese company as the exclusive supplier of the best TVs that are within reach of ‘normal people’ (excluding microOLED which is only affordable by the very rich). Panasonic may be kicking itself – it could have shared that position. (BR)
