LGD Evo/EX Daily Update (well, it feels like that!)

What They Say

Well, yesterday we thought we had finally understood the LG Evo/Ex development, but it seems that we missed an article in ‘The Elec’ over Christmas, which added some more interesting information. It seems that LG Display actually made some WOLED panels last year using Deuterium-modified blue emitter material (supplied by DuPont, instead of Idemitsu Kosan, according to the firm) in its Guangzhou fab and these were the ones that were delivered to the market with the ‘Evo’ name by LG Electronics.

A couple of years ago, the OLED-A said that emitter materials using Deuterium were being developed by Idemitsu Kosan, DuPont, SFC, and JNC. Another article that we found suggests that the Deuterium material was previously used in the Galaxy S20.

What We Think

Separately, LG Display confirmed to me that the change to not individually sensing OLED pixels (A Bit More Clarity on the LG Display EX OLEDs) helps with the development of 8K OLEDs, as would other changes that improve the aperture ratio. Not having to sense the individual pixels may also help the support of higher refresh rates which would further exploit the fast response time of OLED materials. (BR)
