Corning ColdForm Attracting Automotive Display Manufacturers

Corning’s ColdForm technology allows glass to be shaped and bent without using heat. This process is more cost- and energy-efficient, and it has been applied to AutoGrade Corning Gorilla Glass for curved automotive interior display systems. Compared to traditional hot-molding processes, the technology reduces shaped cover-glass part costs by up to 40%. At Touch Taiwan 2023, the company received some notice from the local press, particularly as the automotive display market is heating up, as a general engine of growth, but also because of the rapid escalation of EV development in China.

While the ColdForm technology got some notice at Touch Taiwan 2023, the company was touting other products, too:

  1. Acer Chromebook Spin 512 with Corning Gorilla Glass that incorporates the company’s exclusive antibacterial technology, which adds silver ions to the surface of the glass as an antibacterial agent.
  2. HP Dragonfly Folio G3 2-in-1 notebook computer with a combination of AG glass and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which improves the anti-fingerprint ability and provides a paper-like writing experience.
  3. Garmin Forerunner 965 with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with DX that provides scratch resistance and clear displays outdoors.
  4. HP Presence Room Assistant with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that uses hot bending to allow the glass to be bonded in a wide area, providing customers with more flexibility in product design.
