Colour TVs Now 63 Years Old

The last week of September – the 28th, to be precise – marked the 63rd anniversary of colour TVs arriving in US stores. The first model was the CBS-Columbia – produced partly because the CBS network was tired of trying to market advertising slots that no-one was watching! Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. The sets did not last, though – just three weeks later, after 100 sales, CBS discontinued production at the request of the National Production Authority, which did not want colour TVs shipped for the duration of the Korean War.
