Chicago Towers to be Upgraded

Panasonic has supplied LEDs for Chicago’s Millenium Park which has had an upgrade to its original displays, installed in 2004 by Barco. The contractor was Threshold Acostics. The original Crown Fountain system was designed to last seven to eight years, but this was extended to 13 years, but as the LEDs aged the brightness dropped which became apparent on bright days. Spare modules were also running out.

Changes in the technology allowed a reduction of 25% in power consumption, although brightness is double and the project now includes ambient light sensing to control brightness under different conditions.
