CDS Builds Transparency Into LED Displays

Transparent displays have existed for several years, and development continues in both LCD and OLED technology. However, Crystal Display Systems has gone in a different direction, announcing its T-LED Glass product – standing for transparent LED.

Intended as window displays, CDS’ new units can be up to 63″ in size, with transparency up to 75%. They can be used to display promotional messaging, while still allowing people to see inside.

Brightness can be as high as 6,000 cd/m². The displays can be used 24/7, and have a lifetime of around 100,000 hours. As strips of LEDs fail, they can be replaced.

Three different models are available: CDS-5, CDS-8 and CDS-10. Pixel pitches are 5 x 8mm, 7.5 x 8mm and 10mm, respectively. They each measure 1.28m x 0.96m, are IP20-compliant and weigh 18kg. Operating temperature is -10° to 40°.

CDS is selling its T-LED displays now; price is on application. They can be larger than 63″ by request.
