CapGemini Announces IT Partnership with McDonald’s

CapGemini has announced it has signed an agreement with global fast food chain McDonald’s, as its new IT strategy provider, with further support coming from fellow French consulting company, Publicis.Sapient.

As part of the agreement, CapGemini will deliver its digital innovations and expertise in order to improve the experience for the restaurant’s customers, currently estimated to be around 68 million every day. The deal covers the company’s digital signage, kiosks and apps.

The 100 current employees of McDonald’s digital team will move into one of the two partner firms, with 600 new jobs being created at CapGemini’s new digital retail centre, which will be built near McDonald’s Chicago headquarters.

Analyst Comment

Up to now, what has been developed tends to have been different on a global basis. The use of these companies will mean a consistent system architecture, although actual service details will reflect local variations – for example, delivery is reported to be popular in China, while countries with kiosks are experimenting with ‘build your own’ burgers.
