What They Say
RoadToVR reported on a new Enterprise Headset from Canon that looks as though it will, at least for the moment, not be sold outside Japan and is likely to be expensive as the previous version was sold for around $38,000.
The headset has resolution of 1920 x 2160 per eye (up from 1600 x 1200) and the field of vision is said to be 2.5X the previous one at 58° x 60°. It is a passthrough XR device with cameras.
What We Think
There’s a video dubbed in English here. The headset is unusual in that higher end VR/XR headsets with passthrough like the Varjo and Vrgineers designs tend to be full goggles blocking the side view, but the Canon doesn’t do that. I’m guessing that it also has pancake or other optics as it gets the headset close to the eye, but the open headset can be ‘flipped up’ to get out of the way quickly, which is a nice feature if you are switching between real and virtual objects. It can be fitted with bars that allow hand-holding for brief use.
The video shows an application with 3D video. (BR)
