Barco showed three new surgical displays at the Medica trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany. There is a 26″ Full HD (MDSC-2326) unit with 900 cd/m² of output and featuring a scratch-resistant optical glass cover that is intended to be extremely durable and easy-to-clean. The unit also has “smart cable management” to minimise clutter and make arm and boom mounting easier.
There are two 4K/UltraHD monitors in 31″ and 55″. The 31.1″ MDSC-8231 is a 4096 x 2160 resolution (DCI 4K) unit with an IPS-Pro panel with 550 cd/m² of luminance (450 when calibated) and 1,400:1 contrast. Response times are quoted as T on + T off (=rise + fall): 20 ms (typ.) The monitor has 96% coverage of DCI-P3 and supports a range of white points ( 5600K, 6500K, 7600K, 9300K) and gamma curves including Dicom. Inputs include DisplayPort 1.2 MST and DVI and 3G-SDI for FullHD. There is a version with fibre optic connectivity for use with Barco’s Nexxis Link. FullHD inputs can be passed through using SDI and DVI and 4K content can be downscaled to those outputs. Features include PIP, image rotation and mirroring as well as failover modes. The monitor can be managed by USB or over a netowork.
The 55″ MDSC-8255 is intended for both large displays and for multi-display applications.
