Barco started by showing us its latest UST projector lens and was also highlighting the high quality of its integrated blending and scaling technologies. It was also showing its dedicated external controllers.

We have reported a lot on the UniSee video wall LCDs which were launched last year and really took video wall LCD technology to a new level. However, cheap they are not. The company has since added a lower specification range with 3.5mm combined bezels and IPS panels. (Barco Extends Video Wall Range to Mainstream). The KVD5521B is the model number and features that differentiate from competitive products include a modular PSU option and a separate connect box and controller.

Although the specification is reduced from the UniSee, the quality is still high and the panels include SenseX automatic calibration to allow panels to be maintained with very high image quality. The company believes that the new displays are the best 3.5mm panels available.

Narrow bezel video wall monitors can be easily damaged, so Barco has developed a special system for testing the panels for damage without taking them out of the box. This allows clear decisions about DOA replacement – if the seals are not broken, then clearly a faulty unit was a DOA, but if broken it may have been damaged in handling.

Barco has had a lot of success with its ClickShare display dongle system (it claims to have shipped more than 400,000 units worldwide, so far) and has now updated it to support USB Type-C, and is claimed to be the first USB Type-C dongle on the market. Features continue to be added and there is now improved security and facilities that allow remote updating of the firmware to keep systems up to date. The dongles also now feature bi-directional touch and there is a back channel that allows touch data from a display to be sent back to a client device to allow system operation from the main screen.
