Barco Direct View LED Certified by DCI

What They Say

Just to prove that we haven’t changed to AR/VR daily, we spotted an announcement from DCI that is has certified a Barco D-Cinema Direct View Display CL4K-40 with IMS3000 for use.

What We Think

This is the first Barco Direct View LED to be certified and the firm now joins Appotronics, Leyard, LG, Nanjing Lopu, Nanolumens, Samsung, Shanghai Muge, Shenzhen Timewaying Technology and Sony as a supplier of direct view LED cinema displays. However, there’s still not much demand. A combination of poor revenues and financials for the operators and high costs for the displays means that the market is very small, still.

Eric Virey mentioned digital cinema in his round-up of small pitch LED markets that I report on today, but he sees the market as still new and without rapid growth.

Earlier this year, Barco increased its share in the Cinionic JV to 80% (Barco Updates on Trading for 1Q22). I was slightly surprised to see that this approval was to Barco rather than Cinionic, but it’s a very early market at the moment. Further, I couldn’t find a trace of this model number on Barco’s website, so perhaps it is yet to be launched to the market. (BR)
