Barco Brings Laser-Phosphor B-Series to China

Barco has unveiled what it says is the world’s first DCI-4k laser-phosphor projector, at the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition (BIRTV).

The DP4K-23BLP is a 3DLP model, which is being launched as both a new and retrofit solution. Exhibitors who already own a B-series projector can retrofit their existing model with a laser-phosphor module.

Image: PJ TimeIf the projector is similar to the lamp-based DP4K-23B, then a media server will be built in, with on-board storage. The lamp-based model is a smart projector, which can detect faults and warn users, and can be managed through Barco’s Web Commander interface. We have asked Barco if this is the case with the new projector, but details are currently only being shared in China.

Resolution is DCI-4k and brightness (centre) is 23,000 lumens. An identical projector called the DP2K-23BLP, with ‘2k’ resolution (we assume DCI-2k, which is 2048 x 1080), will be launched at the same time. Both will be shipped by the end of 2016.

Also at BIRTV, Barco said that it will launch new laser-phosphor projectors called the SLP series, later this year. They will be based on the laser technology of its partner, Cineappo, like the B-series.
