The Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB) has released a new whitepaper, which shows that, while Netflix subscriptions in the UK are slowing down, Now TV, which is owned by Sky, is beginning to close the gap.
According to the report, 9.5 million households in the UK subscribe to at least one subscription video-on-demand service. 7.5 million households subscribe to Netflix, while around 3 million are signed up to Amazon Video and 1.4 million have registered with Now TV. However, in terms of growth, Netflix subscriptions only grew by 22%, while Amazon subs jumped up by 51% and Now TV enjoyed a growth of 70%.
The report also highlighting the “symbiotic relationship” between Pay TV and SVOD services, with many households subscribing to a SVOD platform, despite many Pay TV providers offering catch-up TV and other on-demand features.
You can take a look at the whitepaper in full, which also investigates the subscription overlap between the different SVOD platforms, on the BARB website.
