Apple to account for half of flexible OLED smartphones in 2021

The Elec in Korea reports a forecast from Stone Partners that half of all new flexible OLED smartphones due to launch in 2021 will come from Apple, with the market representing 315 million units, up 52%. Apple’s volume of OLEDs is expected to go from 90 million to 160 million. Samsung Electronics is expected to go from 53 million to 90 million flexible OLEDs, and from 99 million to 100 million rigid OLEDs.

This year, the market will be 207 million. Rigid OLED shipments will grow from 227 million to 282 million.

The firm has revised down its Huawei forecast from 50-60 million to just 8 million smartphones using flexible OLEDs. Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo will supply 20 million devices with flexible displays.

LCD will drop from 831 million this year to 793 next year out of a total of 1.390 billion, up from 1.265 billion.
