Worldwide semiconductor sales in August were up 9.4% YoY, to $28.4 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. The figure also represents a 1.3% MoM increase. Sales in the January-August period were 10.1% higher than the same period in 2013.
The semiconductor industry has now exhibited growth for six consecutive months. SIA president Brian Toohey said that continued strength in the Americas was part of the reason for that, while also boding well for the overall US economy.
In regional terms, the largest YoY increase was seen in APACxJ (12.3%). Europe (10.9%) and the Americas (7%) followed, while Japan saw a small decrease (-1.7%). MoM sales were up in the Americas (2.3%) and APACxJ (1.7%), flat in Japan and slightly down in Europe (-1.3%). Sales were up in all regions QoQ.
