Amazon on Announced a New Hardware Partnership with TCL

What They Say

TCL has launched a new series of TVs based on Amazon’s Fire TV OS. The 55″ and 65″ sets will be sold in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

What We Think

Protocol  Entertainment has an interesting article on how TCL tried getting around Android licensing restrictions by Google including setting up a shell company, although Protocol said that TCL ‘got cold feet’ over the idea. In a separate article, it said that Google and Amazon have made peace over smartTV competition. In the article, Amazon is quoted as saying that it has over 160 different television models globally that have incorporated Fire TV as their operating system and that more than 150 million TVs and adaptors have been sold.

TCL has had TVs with Google TV, Roku and now the Fire TV OS. (BR)
