China’s Allwinner Technology has announced a new octa-core SoC for high-end set-top boxes and gaming devices. The H8 chip is based on TSMC’s 28nm process. It uses eight Cortex-A7 cores, running at up to 2GHz; all eight can be in operation at the same time. The GPU is a PowerVR SGX544 unit from Imagination Technologies, running at 700MHz. The H8 can support multi-format video processing at 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60fps, including HEVC decoding.
