What They Say
TowardsDataScience has reported work that looks at the issue that causes some to suffer from ‘cybermotion sickness’ when viewing 3 DOF content (from a fixed position) in 6 DOF (fully movable) headsets. The difference means that your optical system doesn’t seem to match your physical motion and that causes discomfort.
The research used AI to generate novel viewpoints for 3DOF content that allow the viewer to move about in the scene, even though the original scene was captured from a fixed position. Researchers from Royal Holloway University tested the method and published a paper in Multisensory Research, that was reported on in New Scientist.
“The results confirmed a very effective reduction in cybersickness when using copernic360.” — Dr Elisa Ferré , Lead of the scientific study
The technology was developed by Kagenova of the UK and is called copernic360 which combines a plug-in for 3D engines and a cloud-based service.. There’s a short video here.
What We Think
AI seems to be solving everything at the moment. Now, if only we can sort out the Meaning of Life….(BR)
