Elliptic Labs and AAC Technologies have done a deal that will see AAC delivering designs that will support ultrasound which are used by Elliptic for gesture recognition. The companies said that AAC’s technology is already in the majority of current smartphones. (Elliptic Labs Extends its Technology) Elliptic’s ultrasound gesture technology can also exploit the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform using the Snapdragon Neural Processing. Elliptics’ technology is in some of Xiaomi’s smartphones.

Laila Danielsen, president and CEO of Elliptic Labs said

“The direction of the smartphone market is clear, with any vendor that wishes to be competitive now scrambling to increase screen real estate. The easiest, already-proven method is to move or remove the hardware components — camera, speaker, proximity sensor and more — from the top front screen. Using ultrasonic software is a least-expensive solution to achieve this improved design”.
