What They Say
Counterpoint Research published some data on the development of the VR and AR markets. The firm said:
- Global XR shipment volume grew by 4% YoY, which was underwhelming for an industry that has previously seen triple digit growth on the back of big launches during Q2 2021.
- VR standalone form factor captured 90% of the total XR market shipments in Q2 2022 as compared to 80% in Q2 2021.
- AR Tethered form factor’s quarterly growth was supported by a 22% increase in Nreal’s shipments.
- Meta continued to dominate an XR market and Pico retained its second spot for two successive quarters.
- Considering that Q2 2022 is a pause period for the XR market, DPVR showed 2% YoY growth.
- Moreover, HTC grew 158% YoY in Q2 2022 from a small base of 40k in Q2 2021.
What We Think
Well, of course, this data would be more helpful if there were unit numbers rather than just shares! We dug around and found that ARInsider estimated the number of Quest 2 devices in Q2 as around 970K. That would put the market at 1.47 million devices in Q2 2022. (BR)
