SmartTV Sales Down in Russia

What They Say

A report from Russia said, based on data from J’son & Partners, that sales in 2021 of SmartTVs in Russia were down at 4.56 million sets, lower than in 2020. The firm forecast that sales of SmartTVs will be down 28% this year. The market is expected to slowly recover from 2023 onwards.

What We Think

Paul Gray of Omdia said at the SID/DSCC Business Conference that Russians had ‘stripped the shelves’ of TVs after the Ukraine invasion as buyers knew that there would be supply chain issues. Russians have very specific behaviours based on an expectation of significant shortages in income or availability of products from time to time.

DiScien reported recently that most of the sets sold in Russia are made there because of the duty issues on imported products. Russia – Ukraine War Will Reduce TV Demand, per DiScien Analysis (BR)
