What They Say
PC World magazine published an article lamenting the relative scarcity of OLEDs in IT devices (other than smartphones and tablets). The article included quotes from Ross Young of DSCC who said, among other things, that
“There are a number of near-term advances expected in reducing power […]. These developments combined could reduce OLEDs power by more than 50%.”
He mentions, specifically, tandem structures (double OLED stacks) as increasing lifetime and efficiency.
What We Think
We’ve got more on this topic later this week and I wrote about it in a recent DD. (OLEDs Into IT – the Whys & Wherefores) I followed up with Ross and he said that there were another couple of factors that should improve including, of course, better blue materials and the use of filters to replace polarisers. (OTI Lumionics Helping With Foldable OLEDs) There is another and I’m planning a Display Daily on that topic later this week. (BR)
