Commission accepts Broadcom commitments for set-top chips

What They Say

The European Commission has been taking action against Broadcom over issues of competition policy. In April the firm said it would not make new agreements with similar terms and the Commission has now accepted this undertaking. The conclusion of the anti-trust investigation follows an alleged abuse of dominance by Broadcom in SoCs for TV set top boxes, xDSL and fibre modems.

What We Think

Having almost been the target of a Commission competition policy action many years ago, I know how much management time and energy (and very expensive lawyer fees) are involved, so Broadcom will be glad this is over. (BR)
