Post Mobile AR, a new augmented reality solution from US-based company Spacee, allows 2D or 3D surfaces to be turned into an interactive touchscreen that can be used without the need of a headset or smartphone display.
CEO Skip Howard told VR Scout, “Our technology can save a company millions of dollars because you can’t steal what’s not there. There is no shrinkage, no security devices needed, no need to replace a stolen device, no labour and cost involved for fixing and setting up, or planogram compliance issues”.
The solution has also been updated with AI capabilities, allowing it to detect objects placed on top of the touchscreen and incorporating them into the visuals. So far, Post Mobile AR is being used solely by retail for in-store displays, including brands like Mercedes-Benz, though the company has designs on the entertainment, real estate and amusement park industries.
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon called the solution “the future of shopping”.
