Intel Pulls the Plug on AR Smart Glasses Project

Intel has announced that it will shut down its New Devices Group and scrap its AR smart glasses project, Vaunt. The company gave no reason for the closure but it’s believed that it will lead to job cuts.

In its statement, the company wrote, “Intel is continuously working on new technologies and experiences. Not all of these develop into a product we choose to take to market. The Superlight project is a great example where Intel developed truly differentiated, consumer augmented reality glasses. We are going to take a disciplined approach as we keep inventing and exploring new technologies, which will sometimes require tough choices when market dynamics don’t support further investment”.

As we mentioned last time we reported on this, Intel had closed its Recon Instruments group, so it’s not a big surprise that Vaunt has gone, too. (Intel Planning to Launch AR Smart Glasses This Year)
