Digital pay-TV penetration in Latin America was 85% in 2016, according to Dataxis. It is forecast to reach 94% by 2022, while analogue pay-TV will be on the way out. Growth has been attributed to the spread of DTH, which is currently used by 50.8% of subscribers and is expected to rise to 51.5% by 2022. In addition, 68% cable TV users have moved to digital cable, with the figure predicted to be 85% by 2022.
Dataxis expects analogue MMDS and UHF terrestrial TV to have gone completely over the next five years, while IPTV, which had 2% of pay-TV subscribers in 2016, will continue to grow with 6% by 2022.
