Amphion Semiconductor from Belfast in Northern Ireland said that its has developed two extended performance variants of its HEVC/H.265 ‘Malone’ video decoder core for SoC implementation. The 4Kp120 (CS8150) and 8Kp60 (CS8160) variants target higher frame rates and higher resolutions respectively and meet the needs of next generation applications in the digital TV and set top box markets in addition to the emerging VR/AR market. The cores are the latest in a family of video decoders that have been implemented in, the company said, many SoCs in volume production in a wide range of process nodes down to 28nm.
The 4Kp120 (CS8150) and 8Kp60 (CS8160) variants bring to six the number of available cores in the Malone video decoder family that includes the popular / widely used / widely adopted CS8140 multi-format, multi-stream decoder supporting 12 industry standard formats in a single compact implementation.
