More details of the Microsoft Project Scorpio console project are emerging. The console will be compatible with games for the XBox One S but brings UltraHD game play and will have a high power octocore CPU. Software for the new console should also be able to scale back (in resolution and/or frame rate) to run on older consoles. It has been suggested that the system might use a split frame rate architecture, with 30fps of CPU updating, but with the GPU rendering at 60fps.
The new console is expected to ship later in 2017.

We were impressed with the performance of the AMD Ryzen technology, shown at CES in UltraHD. In fact, the first UltraHD demo that really impressed me was not of video, but of a PC game, shown by Toshiba several years ago at IFA. (BR)
