The TV academy announced four Interactive Media Jury Winners this week. One of the surprises is the one award going to Oculus and their virtual reality experience, Henry. The experience is about a hedgehog walking through his room on his birthday with the viewer becoming part of the event. Of course, the real thing can only be watched with a VR headset, however Oculus has a short introduction for a normal monitor on their website.
Having an Emmy to their credentials gives them some more clout and, maybe, even a little push for their technology. Nevertheless it shows that the TV Academy is actually following virtual reality as a new media that some day may replace cinema and TV as we know it. – NH
