Although little information has been released so far, Semiconductor Energy Laboratory says that it has developed a hybrid OLED-and-LCD display. Created in partnership with Advanced Film Device, the prototype uses an OLED display on top of a reflective LCD. The intent is to create a screen with high visibility in both dark (using the emissive OLED) and and light (using the reflective LCD) environments.
The same FET layer is used to control both panels, meaning that the whole device consumes a low level of power. It will be presented at SID in May.
