Prolific rumour mill, Kotaku, claims that Sony is developing a Playstation 4 that can support UltraHD games. The ‘PS4.5’ may be a new device or a simple addon, and will include a new GPU to enable the higher resolutions.
Analyst Comment
Although Kotaku often misses the mark, in this case we’re hoping that it’s on to something. A GPU capable of supporting an UltraHD console would be a big boost to Sony’s Playstation VR headset – as well as to the company itself. No consoles are currently capable of supporting games at this resolution, which would also mean better performance at the lower resolutions in current VR. (TA)
