HP Updates Sprout for Professionals

HP was in the area that was centred around the Intel booth (and also included Dell and Lenovo) and was showing software and clients and had news about the Sprout. The original Sprout product was designed and marketed as a home/consumer product. However, at the show, they were positioning a new version, the Sprout Pro, for professional and commercial applications.

The All-in-one PC that drives the system has been updated with a Skylake Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, up to a Terabyte of storage, an Nvidia 945 GPU and Windows 10 Pro. The integrated Intel RealSense system can be used for 2D and 3D image and object capture. A number of applications for the Sprout have been developed including “Stop Motion” which can create animation videos from captures and Origami Apprentice, which projects onto paper to help with folding. The firm also has plug-ins for Microsoft Office to allow captures to be included in documents and presentations. There is new Companion software that supports Micosoft’s Skype for Business to assist in sharing content captured by the system. HP told us that quite a lot of technology from HP’s scanner experience are proving useful, including OCR.

The new version will start shipping from March in Europe at €2,599
