Just a few days after IFA, MMD showed off a new monitor that is the first Philips-branded 5k model.
The 27″ 275P4VYKEB houses a screen with 5120 x 2880 resolution, using a PLS panel from Samsung. The display shows 10-bit colour, with 99% Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB coverage. Philips’ flicker-free and SmartUniformity (maintaining brightness uniformity above 95% across the screen) technologies are built in.
The PLS panel has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 178° viewing angles and an 8ms (grey-to-grey) response time. Brightness is 300 cd/m². Two 2W speakers are built in, and DisplayPort (x2) and USB 3.0 (x3) inputs are featured. To show 5k content at 60fps, both DisplayPort inputs will be required.
-5° to 20° tilt, 130° swivel, 90° pivot and 150mm height-adjustment are built into the stand.
There is currently no information about availability or pricing.

As I mention in my IFA report on Samsung, calling these monitors 5K is absolutely crazy! “4K” monitors (actually UltraHD) have about 8 megapixels. These monitors have almost 15! Yet, the industry describes them with a number that is only 25% bigger. It never ceases to amaze me that the monitor industry, while complaining about dropping customer interest and volumes, seems incapable of doing anything to communicate the true value of its offerings! <rant mode off> (BR)
