Blackberry CEO John Chen has admitted that the company may be forced to stop making smartphones. If the current state of business carries on, and efforts to turn the company around fail, then it may be the only option, he said.
It is still possible for Blackberry to remain in the smartphone market. The company could reduce its number of models; exit the low-end of the market; and focus more on its core base of business and government users, to return to profitability.
“[A future phone will] be a high-end phone that you can walk into AT&T and get it, as a professional”, Chen said. “It’s hard to compete with Chinese and Indian manufacturers for the lower end of the market”.
