At the recent Frankfurt motor show, Qualcomm CEO, Steven Mllenkopf has forecast that the US, Korea and Japan would start to launch 5G services in 2019, with China not too far behind. The firm’s 9150 C-V2X chip is to be used by Continental for field trials in automotive applications and the company said that its chips have been chosen by twelve ‘top global automakers’. He also quoted Strategy Analytics as forecasting that two thirds of cars will have cellular connectivity by 2022.
