What They Say
The GfU pointed out that it is 20 years since LCDs were first introduced in Germany as TVs, starting with sales of 8,000 12″ units (priced at DM4,500/€2,300). Since then, the market has seen sales of 100 million units. OLED TVs, in contrast, have sold 2.5 million units to the end of 2020, but with growth forecast.
What We Think
We added captions in English to the graphic for those that are not German speakers. I still remember a forecast of 100 million annual LCD TV sales being given by a Samsung executive at SID in a keynote, and he drew gasps from the audience. In fact, the market hit that number a couple of years earlier than the forecast! (BR)
