Netherlands-based Zero Creative has developed a glasses-free 3D notebook called the Futurebook, under the XYZ brand. The product is designed for both casual and professional use, such as gaming, film watching, CAD design and medical applications.
A glasses-free laptop with a lenticular lens was released by Zero Creative in 2009; the Futurebook builds on that development. A lenticular lens, which can be ‘switched off’ to show 2D content, is used for the 3D effect. Zero Creative says that the lens layer does not affect the screen resolution (1920 x 1080) in 2D mode. The (patented) technology used also means that certain areas of the screen can be made 3D, while other areas remain 2D. A two-view 3D system is used, with head tracking to optimise the display of 3D content.
A DirectX game driver, Tridef 3D Ignition, is built into the Futurebook. Tridef renders supported games into 3D in real time.
Zero Creative’s Futurebook is a 15.6″ laptop, running Windows 8.1 on an Intel Haswell processor. This can be a dual-core Core i5 or quad-core Core i7. There is 4GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD and Nvidia Geforce GTX860M graphics.
A limited release (100 units) will take place in January, for orders placed before 10th December. The price for these units will be lowered to €1,570 ex VAT. Prices after this point have not been announced.
