Xbox app to launch on Samsung Smart TVs in June, but only 2022 models

What They Say

Samsung will launch a new Microsoft Xbox application to stream 100 games on its 2022 SmartTVs at the end of June and only in some countries. Sets must be running Tizen 6.5. Streaming performance is limited to FullHD at 60P and users will have to subscribe to an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. The app will be compatible with the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Elite Series 2 Controller, the Sony DualSense, and other controllers. They will connect to the Samsung TV over Bluetooth.

Microsoft said that it is working on ‘other TV partnerships’.

What We Think

Omdia said that at the SID/DSCC Business Conference that cloud gaming ‘will dwarf consoles’. It has long been promised, but seems to be finally arriving. I have been struggling all morning with terrible hotel Wi-fi, a failure by my smartphone in getting roaming data and an inability, seemingly, to add extra data to my wife’s smartphone plan, so I can’t say that I’m a big proponent of the cloud today!!
