The just announced WowTech VR Box 3 is a smartphone-based virtual reality headset comparable to the Samsung Gear VR. It allows the use of most 4” to 6” smartphones including the Apple iPhone 6 to 6S+, Samsung Galaxy S4 to S7 Note and others. They claim up to a 100 degree FoV and that all parts are made from highly durable ABS. The device also comes with a Bluetooth controller for those VR games you can download for free.
The device weighs in at 1.4lbs and that is without the addition of the smartphone providing the display. This is by no means a lightweight compared to the Samsung Gear VR (310g).
The key point of such a device is the content availability and this is where WowTech is currently claiming that the device is a 2D/3D virtual movie theater (I assume that means you can watch 3D movies downloaded from the internet) and some VR games.
Compared to the $99 Samsung Gear VR, the $29.99 (currently $25.99) for the WowTech VR Box 3 seems like a bargain. The device is available from Amazon for immediate shipping. However, many customer reviews point out that the description and app comes in Chinese only, great if you speak Chinese otherwise this may be an issue. Other reviewers were quite positive of the value they got. As in general you can expect to get what you pay for. – NH

I’ve also been playing around with a VR Shinecon V/R device which is similar. The Bluetooth controller is essential. (BR)
