What They Say
Vogue Business (not a regular title for me!) published an article that suggests that trying on clothes using augmented reality might be getting close, with the possibility of showing clothing dynamically in a video app, using something like a Snapchat filter. Snap Inc recently acquired Vertebrae which works with European luxury brands to create 3D versions of products. It also has technology for ‘cloth simulation’ (seen as an essential component).
The article quotes research that using 3D and AR can reduce returns by up to 40% and increase conversion by 97%.
What We Think
I remember meeting a company at the MWC technology start-up event that told me that the biggest barrier to this kind of application is the time and cost of creating 3D assets of the clothing. It had a way of solving this problem, of course. (BR)
