What They Say
The Protocol newsletter had a dig into Vizio’s S-1 prospectus that includes the story of how the founder, William Wang, was in a plane crash before founding the company. It also reveals that the firm’s gross margins have edged up from 5.1% in 2018 to 9.7% in 2020, helped by sales of soundbars as well as bigger TVs.
What We Think
Vizio had sales of over $2 billion with just 527 staff – that’s $3.875 million per employee – very good going and the reason it can be profitable on such slim pickings. There is interesting data in the filing on the use of the firm’s SmartCast app and revenues. (BR)
