The Economist looked at 22 emerging technologies that could see significant developments in 2022. Only two are significant for displays, the first being the possible development of VR headsets for exercise and the second ‘The Metaverse’.
What We Think
I have to disagree with the Economist. I can’t say that I enjoy the physical feeling of a VR headset at the best of times, but the weight bouncing up and down on the nose and the sweatiness from a closed space on the face are probably enough to put me off. Once we get to the weight and style of my cycling glasses, I can see it, but that won’t be in 2022.
I also saw reports that Peleton has found that much of its success may have just been a result of the pandemc. I can see companies like that jumping on the VR/metaverse bandwagon in an attempt to build hype. (BR)
VR cycling start-up Widerun raised $30K for its Kickstarter in 2015, but seems to have disappeared.
