WayRay Reveals Two New Automotive AR Products

Swiss augmented reality specialist, WayRay, has unveiled two new AR products for the automotive industry, a year after Chinese e-commerce firm Alibaba invested in the company.

The first is a hands-free holographic navigation system called Navion, which attaches to a vehicle’s dashboard and provides a speed indicator and other journey information, highlights hazards and points of interest, as well as GPS navigation via simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM). It also incorporates a Full HD camera. Navion is scheduled for release later this year, with the first SDK heading to developers soon.

The company has also developed an OEM solution that will enable vehicle manufacturers to build similar technology directly into car windshields. The Chinese automotive industry has taken the technology on already, with vehicles equipped with the solution expected to emerge on the market by the end of 2018.
