We reported on the Warranty Week summaries on warranty for consumer electronics over the last few weeks. Now the site has reported on retail notebook warranties in the US. 18 major retail chains were checked and eight suppliers or insurers were found to support the warranties. Dell, Acer and HP notebooks were checked at prices from $300 to $2,500. Contracts went from two to five years and the average cost was 23% of the notebook price but as it found with TVs and Blu-ray players, the range was wide. Four and five year warranties averaged 41%, but three of the contracts were between 80% and 100% of the purchase price.
