VW Adopts HUD for New Passat Models

VW passat HUD

Head Up Displays (HUD) are moving more and more into the mainstream car market. The latest entrance comes from VW. Of course, as VW owns Audi, it already offers HUDs in these models, but now the company is also offering the HUD in its latest Passat model. This is the first model that VW will equip with this technology.

The HUD offers a focal point about 2m (6 feet) in front of the vehicle, which VW explains will help the driver to avoid switching between near and far focus of the eyes. The HUD has a resolution of 480 x 240 pixels and uses a slide out panel as the combiner element.

There is no detail on the display used itself, but it seems the HUD is capable of full color, according to the provided images. The system is controlled through the infotainment system that allows the driver to select which information is being shown on the HUD (e.g. current speed, speed limits, navigation information, etc.).

The combiner panel is retractable via a motorized function, protecting ir from dust and dirt while not in use.

The HUD option is now available for order on all Passat models at a price of €560. – NH
