Vuzix Expands and Enhances the Connectivity of its Smart Glasses with LiFi Support

Fraunhofer Lifi

What They Say

Vuzix put out a press release (it sends almost more than anyone!) that set out that it would support Signify’s Trulifi LiFi technology for low latency two-way wireless connectivity to its AR glasses. The technology will work with Gemvision software (a cloud-based, off the shelf Communication Platform as a Service (CPAAS) provider). Connectivity is supported at up to 220Mbps in areas where wireless connectivity may be difficult or restricted.

What We Think

The development of LiFi has been quite a long one – we first reported on modules using the technology from the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IPMS) around Electronica in Munich in 2014. At the time we met with them, the maximum range was 10m, but at up to 1GBps. LiFi is really convenient in high security areas.

(Apologies – this was announced a couple of weeks ago, but it got misfiled in the system!) (BR)
