What They Say
DSCC published an interesting forecast for VR devices and said that 15.8 million panels will be used in VR headsets this year – with over 80% of the demand coming from Meta. Highlights will be:
- Sony launching PlayStation VR2 with over 800ppi using an AMOLED. The development of that level is because of the volume Sony can deliver
- OLED on silicon will grow partly because DSCC believes Apple will use it, despite its delays. A Chinese start-up, Arpara, will also use the technology.
- There is a shift from single to double panel headsets.
- While shipments of VR headsets will grow at a CAGR of 34%, panel shipments will increase at a CAGR of 50%.
- Annual revenues for AR/VR displays will reach $9.3B in 2027. VR and passthrough AR will remain the biggest segment. (Chart on the blog)
What We Think
I hadn’t thought about the impact of moving from monocular devices to stereo on the numbers! Doh! The panel shipments by configuration is a new one to me, and looks useful. (BR)
