Jaunt Studios, self described as “the industry leader in cinematic virtual reality (VR),” announced on January 19th the availability of their Cinematic VR Field Guide, intended to be a guide for creatives venturing into VR filmmaking. There are a lot of dos and don’ts when making cinematic, i.e. storytelling, VR, and many of these dos and don’ts are very different from the dos and don’ts of conventional cinema.
I took a quick look through this 56 page guide and found it not just a guide to making cinematic VR content, but a good guide to 360° VR in general. Since it is a free download here, anyone interested in 360° VR for either cinematic or non-cinematic applications should at least take a look at it. In addition to this downloadable version of the field guide, Jaunt will be hosting a series of panel discussions and workshops throughout the duration of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, which runs from now through January 29th. There the creative community will be able learn about the company’s hardware and software offerings and receive a hardcopy of the field guide. –Matthew Brennesholtz
