Vodafone has confirmed it is in talks to purchase a number of Liberty Global’s cable assets in countries where the two companies have overlapping assets, which includes the Czech Republic and Hungary. Vodafone previously acquired cable assets in Spain and Germany.
The agreement does not cover the UK. Previous discussions regarding a European merger between the two companies, which would’ve seen Vodafone acquire Liberty-owned Virgin Media, ended in a financial stalemate two years ago. (Liberty/Vodafone Deal Off the Table).
More recently, the European Commission’s approval of a merger between Vodafone and Ziggo in the Netherlands was overturned by the EU General Court. (Court Overturns Vodafone/Ziggo Approval)
